Malaysia said today that it wants to send peacekeepers to Lebanon even as Israel says it might oppose the inclusion of countries with which it does not have diplomatic ties, Reuters reported, citing Malaysian Defense Minister Najib Razak.
``There is no reason whatsoever to stop us from sending our men there,'' Razak told reporters, Reuters said.
Predominantly Muslim Malaysia and Indonesia have each offered to send 1,000 troops to the UN force and neither has diplomatic relations with Israel, the news service reported.
Iranian Congratulations
Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei congratulated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on his organization's fight with Israel, the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency reported. Khamenei said Hezbollah scored a victory for Islam and demonstrated vulnerabilities in the Israeli military.
Hezbollah, whose name means Party of God and is sponsored by Iran and Syria, has been linked to scores of terrorist attacks on Israelis and Americans, including rocket assaults on Israeli towns, bombings in Beirut in 1983 that killed 241 U.S. servicemen and 58 French soldiers, and the 1994 attack that killed 85 people at a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires.
